Common Weeds

Wood Sorrel  ­   This common weed is actually a wild edible! It has a lemony flavour - after weeding, try sprinkling some on your salad.  ­

Wild Mustard  ­   Another wild edible, wild mustard is often used in salads and sandwiches. It's a very aggressive grower that out-competes other plants, so pull it (and eat it?) as soon as you see it.  ­

Lady's Thumb/Jesusplant  ­   An invasive species, lady's thumb may also be eaten as a leafy green when young and is sometimes used to create yellow dye.  ­

Foxtail  ­   No, this isn't baby corn - it's a weed called foxtail, or wild millet, that likes to grow in cultivated fields (and gardens).  ­

Lambs Quarter's  ­   One of Ontario's top five weeds.  ­

Three-seeded Mercury  ­   AKA copperleaf. This is another floral native that some gardeners allow to grow to feed wildlife.  ­

Bindweed  ­   This aptly-named vine is an Ontario wildflower that grows by twining around other plants. It grows quickly and out-competes other plants for sun and nutrients.  ­
